Journalists launch websites in three hours

About 25 journalists attended AAJA San Diego’s April 18 workshop, “Launch Your Website in Three Hours,” eager to add one more check to their checklist of multimedia skills necessary to survive in today’s world of advancing technology and tough economic times.

Held at UC San Diego Extension — a sponsor of the workshop — professionals and students from different mediums came together to create websites in order to showcase their portfolios and resume reels and, most importantly, to establish their online presence as journalists. They learned about WordPress, a publishing system that lets users create blogs or build websites for free.

The short but satiated three-hour course was filled with learning about WordPress.com’s interface and easy-to-use features, handy for crunching out a professional-looking website in a convenient and painless manner.

Taught by AAJA San Diego website coordinator and board member Rani Gupta, participants had the chance to set up posts and pages, install themes and plug-ins, and personalize their newly created websites, illustrating the versatility of WordPress in catering to different needs and preferences of users.

Future professional development workshops will be held. Check out upcoming events posted on our main page, www.aajasandiego.org, for more details.
