SD/PEN hosts best-selling author Stacey O’Brien — July 15
Learn how a New York Times best-selling author got her story written, edited, and published when Stacey O’Brien, author of “Wesley the Owl,” speaks at the next meeting of San Diego Professional Editors Network (SD/PEN) on Thursday, July 15.
In 1985, long before Molly and McGee became webcam wonders, Stacey O’Brien, a biologist working at Caltech, took in a four-day-old barn owl that had no hope of surviving on his own. Over the ensuing two decades, O’Brien developed a remarkable relationship with Wesley the owl and made important discoveries regarding owl behavior, communication, intelligence, and “the Way of the Owl” - which she recounts in her best-selling book.
O’Brien, who is trained as a biologist specializing in wild-animal behavior and works as a wildlife rescuer and rehabilitation expert in Southern California, will explain how she enlisted a team of editors, an agent and a publisher to turn her story into a successful book.
