A Note from AAJA-SD President:
Dear AAJA members and friends,

We are happy to announce more benefits for San Diego AAJA members! Thanks to your board members and those who’ve participated in our survey and offered feedback — we are offering free workshops, resume critiques and more. Check out the attached flier for a list of benefits you’ll receive when joining the local chapter and the overall, organization.

Of course, we don’t want to stop here and accept all the feedback we can get throughout the year. We want to be the best for each of you! Take the survery if you haven’t by visiting this Web site: http://bit.ly/ci1pE0

The survey shouldn’t take more than five minutes. Please feel free to email me feedback, questions and suggestions at President@AAJASanDiego.org as well.

On a personal level, I’d like to add one more note in this newsletter. As a proud member of AAJA, I have to point out that despite the number of benefits offered by our organization – one thing is clear: the mission to diversify the newsrooms throughout the world and the news we receive is as important as it was 29 years ago when AAJA was first formed. Therefore, I ask for your continued support of this organization and the members in it.

Thanks for taking the time to read our March newsletter and we look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming fundraiser San Diego’s Got Talent!

All the best,
Hoa Quach
AAJA-SD President

San Diego’s Got Talent
Our new date for “San Diego’s Got Talent,” has been set! THURSDAY, MARCH 25. This talent show, presented by the Asian American Journalists Association and supported by other J-groups, will feature 15 acts of talent (or lack thereof) by the people you trust most for your news!

We already have…
…a political reporter who plays in a reggae band and is a big fan of Lady Gaga (but then, who isn’t a big fan of Lady Gaga?)
…a biz reporter who can hula like there’s no tomorrow
…and an editor who can score tons of free throws in a row…

Curious as to who they are? You’ll have to come to find out!

Find out who should leave his day job to show off his talent, who should stick to his reporting gig and never perform again, and who should just be thankful he/she’s hot.

The event will take place at the fun Onyx Room. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show will be followed by DJ Dwin and a networking mixer.

Cost: Just $10 or $15 with an AAJA discount card (normal discount card price is $10, see below)

Attendees will also be eligible to win Burger Lounge gift cards, courtesy of BAM Communications.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit journalism students and AAJA programs.

Please purchase your tickets in advance on our Web site before it’s sold-out: http://www.aajasandiego.org/?p=1793

Acts are also still being accepted. Anyone interested can email President@AAJASanDiego.org

AAJA National Convention
Meet fellow AAJA members from around the country this summer!

The 21st Annual AAJA National Convention will be held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa in Los Angeles, California from Aug. 4 to 7, 2010.

AAJA’s 21st National Convention in Los Angeles also coincides with two very important anniversaries. In 2010, we’ll be celebrating the 10th anniversary of J Camp, our annual journalism workshop for multicultural high school students. AAJA will also be celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Executive Leadership Program, founded by Los Angeles member and former AAJA president Dinah Eng, to help train Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists to enter the ranks of newsroom leaders and executives.
