If you’re a journalist — or even if you’re not — blogging is one way to raise your profile and establish yourself as a subject expert. It’s also a way to draw traffic to your Web site, lift your Google page rankings and attract a larger audience (such as editors, producers or potential employers) - if you have those goals. What makes a good blog? How do you get started? What are some free programs for blogging? How often should you blog? How do you market it? How do you blog to enhance your career? If you attended the AAJA-SD workshop on launching a Web site, this will build on it. If not, you will still be able to start a blog from scratch. You do not need prior experience to attend.
The hands-on training will include using WordPress. There will also be a discussion of integrating social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr on a blog. Practical tips will be given for journalists, like finding sources for stories on Twitter and managing professional and personal contacts.
