The pioneering nonprofit online daily voiceofsandiego.org seeks enterprising and investigative-minded reporters to fill two reporting positions.
One reporter will cover San Diego’s intriguing political world. The reporter will step into a San Diego City Hall still reeling from federal investigations and financial meltdown — and enter into an atmosphere ripe for ambitious and meaningful reporting.
The reporter will be expected to produce in-depth and contextual stories and investigations that will help readers connect to their government and effect positive change.
The other reporter will fill the neighborhoods beat. This reporter will have to adroitly handle investigations, in-depth features and obits, scouring San Diego’s neighborhoods from the street on up for the community’s best stories and acting as a roving general assignment reporter finding new angles into the region’s biggest stories.
A knack for great storytelling and a muckraking attitude is a must; fluent Spanish is a definite plus. The reporter will also help oversee a new and exciting expansion of our content presentation.
Come make a difference and be part of the future of journalism in a fun, innovative office. voiceofsandiego.org has steadily grown in size and influence in its more than four years of existence, leading the Christian Science Monitor to call it “a ray of hope for a troubled industry.” It has garnered international recognition for its investigative reporting, and its nonprofit financial structure is being used as a model nationwide for the future of local journalism.
